Using this device, I appreciate Andonstar’s usability. The long lens barrel is effortless to handle, and the easy touch focus has smooth viscous damping. It’s easy to dial in a sharp focus, even when digitally zoomed all the way, with no backlash. The length of the focusing tube also puts the small but sharp color LCD at a good height and removes the lens well away from solder smoke, tools, etc.

Vertical adjustment is in two stages, and the maximum working distance is a bit more than 4.5 inches, giving a field of view well over 0.6 inches on the LCD. This allows for a large amount of space above the stage, making it ideal for SMD work. However, there is a gradual binding issue near the top position where the adjustment knobs require more force than I dare use. It might involve a steel tape mechanism, but I will contact Andonstar for assistance and update my review accordingly.

Plugging the display directly into a 50″ UHD panel (without a PC) looks impressive. However, the scope initially defaults to maximum sharpening, which gives a fairly horrible image. Adjustment buttons on the remote control can set sharpness to low, medium, and high, and I find that low is quite acceptable.

The software, however, is another matter. The USB connection to a PC has trouble going through a hub, and there is no indication of what the problem might be if this is your first time using the software. It is recommended to start with a direct connect to the PC, and if a hub is needed, expect it to require its own power source.

Overall, the Andonstar 5 inch Screen 1080P Digital Microscope is an excellent choice for circuit board repair. It has many features that make it an ideal tool for this type of work, such as a large field of view, easy touch focus, and smoothness of focus, and image clarity. Although there are some issues with the vertical adjustment and software, the device’s strengths outweigh its weaknesses. It’s a high-quality device and comes with an affordable price.
